Adding Events from the Campus Calendar

Why Add Campus Calendar Events?

We encourage everyone on campus to add their events to the Campus Calendar. Not only is it helpful to have all events listed in one central location, but our calendar software offers robust options for viewing, sorting, and feeding events into the main website. Once you have set up a Calendar Feed on your webpage, it will automatically update with your upcoming events — all you have to do is add them to the calendar.

Adding A Calendar Feed

  1. Open the editor for the piece of content you'd like to add your Calendar Feed to. (See Accessing the Page Editor if you're not sure how)
  2. In the Sections area of the editor, either add a new section or click Edit on an existing section.
  3. Under Content, click the arrow of the drop-down menu. By default, the drop-down displays Add Text. Choose Add Events from the drop-down menu.
  4. You should now have an Events widget added under your content area. Enter a title for your feed in the Title field. This will appear on-page as header text above the event feed.
  5. In the Event Feed Days field, enter the number of days in advance you want your feed to pull events from. When choosing this number, consider how often your department holds events and how many you'd like to display on the page. For example, if your department holds one event per month, and you'd like to display 3-4 upcoming events on your page, you might enter 90 in the Event Feed Days field.
  6. Use the Event Feed Search, Event Feed Group, and Event Feed Type fields to choose which events you want your feed to pull in. You may use one or more of the fields to narrow down your results.
    1. Event Feed Search uses results from a search term to populate the feed. If your events have a word, phrase, or tag in common, this may be the field you need.
    2. Event Feed Group uses the Calendar's Group field to choose events. This will be the correct field for most uses of the event feed.
    3. Event Feed Type uses the Calendar's Event Type field to choose events. This may be useful if creating a list of similar types of events, such as book signings or concerts.
  7. If you're not sure which field or combination of fields to use to populate your event feed, email Communications at website@colgate.edu for help.
