Adding Buttons

What are Buttons?

Buttons are an style of link that attract users' attention with a bold, attractive look. Buttons are best used with verb-driven language asking users to complete a specific action. Rather than simply pointing to another page, a button should ask users to "REGISTER" or "JOIN US" or "CONTRIBUTE".


Adding Buttons using the Text Editor

Buttons can be added to any widget that uses the Text Editor. This includes the Text widget, Columns, Expandable Content, and others. See Using the Text Editor for more information.

  1. Open the editor for the piece of content you'd like to add a Button to. (See Accessing the Page Editor if you're not sure how)
  2. In the Sections area of the editor, either add a new section or click Edit on an existing section.
  3. Choose the widget you wish to add a button to from the drop-down menu.
  4. Type the text you want to use as the text of the button, then highlight it. 
  5. Click the Link button in the Text Editor toolbar (it looks like a piece of chainlink). Add the URL of the page you want your button to link to in the window that pops up and click Save. See Adding and Styling Links for information about adding links
  6. Highlight the link you just created (its text should appear in red by default) and click the Styles drop-down menu in the Text Editor.
  7. Scroll down the Styles menu and choose one of the four Button styles, depending on which color you would like your button to display. Please note that the red and maroon button styles should be used for most uses. 

Adding a Button using the Button Widget

  1. Open the editor for the piece of content you'd like to add a Button to. (See Accessing the Page Editor if you're not sure how)
  2. In the Sections area of the editor, either add a new section or click Edit on an existing section.
  3. Under Content, click the arrow of the drop-down menu. By default, the drop-down displays Add Text. Choose "Add Button" from the drop-down menu.
  4. Format your button.
    1. Add the URL of the item you are linking to. See Adding and Styling Links for information about different kinds of links.
    2. Enter the text you wish to appear on the button in the Link Text field.
    3. In the Style drop-down menu, select the style (color) for your button. The option - None - will produce a red button.

Adding a Button Group

A Button Group widget allows you to add several buttons that will display in a horizontal line with each other. To add a Button Group:

  1. Open the editor for the piece of content you'd like to add a Button Group to. (See Accessing the Page Editor if you're not sure how)
  2. In the Sections area of the editor, either add a new section or click Edit on an existing section.
  3. Under Content, click the arrow of the drop-down menu. By default, the drop-down displays Add Text. Choose Add Button Group from the drop-down menu.
  4. Format the first button in your group.
    1. Add the URL of the item you are linking to. See Adding and Styling Links for information about different kinds of links.
    2. Enter the text you wish to appear on the button in the Link Text field.
    3. In the Style drop-down menu, select the style (color) for your first button. The option "- None -" will produce a red button.
  5. To add additional buttons, click Add Button.
