Adding Columns

Why Use Columns?

Columns are a useful widget for organizing content in an easily-digestible format. Drupal provides functionality for easily splitting copy, headers, bulleted lists and other text-based content into two or three columns.

Adding Columns for Text

  1. Open the editor for the piece of content you'd like to add columns to. (See Accessing the Page Editor if you're not sure how)
  2. In the Sections area of the editor, either add a new section or click Edit on an existing section.
  3. Under Content, click the arrow of the drop-down menu. By default, the drop-down displays Add Text. Choose either "Add Text - Two Columns" or "Add Text - Three Columns" from the drop-down menu.
  4. You should now have a column widget added under your content area. Check the "Constrained" checkbox to limit the width of your column widget. If the box is not checked, the widget will use the full available width of the page.
  5. Add a Title to the Title field. This will display as full-width header text above your columns.
  6. Add your content into the Column One, Column Two and Column Three (if applicable) fields. For help using the text editor, see Using the Text Editor.

Splitting Other Content into Columns

Drupal does provide functionality for dividing other widgets into columns. Please contact the Communications office at website@colgate.edu for assistance formatting your page this way.
