What Type of Content Do I Need?
Before building anything in Drupal, the most important decision to make is which Content Type you will use. Content Types are the way Drupal categorizes different types of pages and content. The Content Type you choose will determine how your page displays, where it will live within the site's navigation, and what content you can add to it.
There are five Content Types most users will need:
Basic Page
A Basic Page should be used for any webpage that doesn't fit in any of the other categories. Highly customizable, this Content Type will be used for the majority of pages.
Campus Resources and Services Page
This Content Type creates pages within colgate.edu's Campus Resources and Services section. CRS content should be:
- Internally focused (i.e., made for an audience of current students, faculty, staff, etc)
- Action-oriented and informational (related to a specific task, issue or question)
- Specific (limit one topic or task per CSR page)

Landing Page
Landing Pages are similar to basic pages, but provide a template for a visually interesting homepage. Landing Pages are best used as the homepage for an office or department which links out to subpages with more informational content.
News Post
The News Post Content Type creates new articles in the Colgate news blog at colgate.edu/news. This content type will only be used by the Office of Communications, which runs the news blog, and collaborators.
Blog Post
Blog Posts create new posts in the departmental blogs. If your department or office has its own blog within colgate.edu, use the Blog Post Content Type to create new posts.
