Adding a Block Quote
What is a Block Quote?
A Block Quote allows you to display a quote from a person or piece of content in large, attractive lettering. Please take care to ensure any quotations you use from people are accurate and, if possible, provide a source.
Adding a Block Quote
- Open the editor for the piece of content you'd like to add your Block Quote to. (See Accessing the Page Editor if you're not sure how)
- In the Sections area of the editor, either add a new section or click Edit on an existing section.
- Under Content, click the arrow of the drop-down menu. By default, the drop-down displays Add Text. Choose Add Blockquote [testimonial] from the drop-down menu.
- You should now have a Block Quote widget added under your content area. In the Style drop-down menu, select either Centered or Full-Width.
- Centered will place margins on the side of your Block Quote, keeping it constrained to the middle of the page.
- Full-Width allows the Block Quote to take up the entire usable width of the page.
- Enter the text of the quote in the Text field. Most text formatting tools will work within the Block Quote, but we'd recommend using restraint with bold, italics, etc. as the Block Quote is already quite a visually intense page element.
- The Image, Author and Source fields allow you to attribute your quote's source and add a headshot but are not required for the widget.
- For the Image, use an image where the subject's face is centered in the frame as the image will display as cropped to a circle. To use a previously uploaded image, select Browse Media. To upload your own, select Add Media. Block Quote images should be resized to 140px x 140px, focusing on the subject's face. For info on image resizing, see Optimizing Images for the Web.
- Enter the name of the person who wrote or said your quote in the Author field
- Enter the source material of the quote in the Source field. Did it come from a speech or magazine article? Enter that here, if possible.
