Adding Anchors

Anchors are a type of link that allows you to link directly to a specific point on a page. They can be useful for helping users quickly navigate a content-heavy page or linking directly to the relevant part of a different page.

There are two parts to adding Anchors: placing the Anchor and creating a link.

Placing the Anchor

Placing the anchor creates a set point on the webpage which you will link to later. To place an anchor:

  1. Place the cursor in the Text Editor where you would like your anchor placed. If linking to a specific header, place the anchor in the space directly before or after the header, as illustrated below.
  2. Click the Anchor button on the text editor (the Anchor button looks like a flag).
  3. Enter a name for your anchor in the "Anchor Name" field of the pop-up window. An ideal anchor name will be one word, all lowercase letters, that is easy to remember and spell, as you will need to reference this exact name again later.
  4. Click "OK" to place the anchor.

Linking to an Anchor

Creating a link to an anchor sends the user to the specific point on the page where the anchor was placed. You can create a link to an anchor from the same page as the anchor, or from a different page.

  1. Create a link as you usually would. See Adding and Styling Links for more information. Anchor links can also be created using any widget that uses the "URL" field.
  2. If linking to an anchor on the same page: In the "URL" field, enter a # symbol, followed by the name you entered in the "Anchor Name" field.
  3. If linking to another page: type the name of the page you're linking to, then choose the correct content from the drop-down menu. Then, after the address in the URL field, enter a # symbol, followed by the Anchor Name.
  4. Click "OK".
